Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is designed to improve the appearance and symptoms of overly large breasts by reducing their size and reshaping them. The surgery is specifically designed to relieve symptoms of pain and discomfort in the breasts, shoulders, neck and upper back. Juvenile breast reduction is also an excellent procedure for teens experiencing breast hypertrophy. Women who have overly large breasts do not need to be told of the discomfort they suffer. Back and neck pain all too often accompany disproportionately large breasts. It is also difficult to find attractive clothes that fit properly. The rubbing motion of the breasts against the chest can cause skin irritation, while the bra straps gouge into the shoulders.
New developments in breast reduction surgery include the limited incision techniques, including the LeJour technique and the use of liposculpture for artistic shaping of the breast.

About
The woman who opts for breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) generally feels like a new person after surgery. Her posture is improved. She feels better and looks slimmer. Often, she develops a new confidence in herself.
Our doctors have the experience and skill to give you the results you envision through breast surgery. To learn more about breast augmentation, lift, and reduction.
For many patients, breast reduction is partially covered by medical/health insurance.
The surgery can be performed in the hospital or at our center, depending on your general medical condition. If the surgery is performed at our center, your surgeon may wish to have you transferred to the hospital after surgery for a planned overnight stay.
Frequently, other breast enhancement procedures are performed in conjunction with a breast reduction, including reduction of large areolae (colored areas around the nipples), correction of inverted nipples, and reduction of overly prominent nipples. In addition, breasts that are unequal in size can be made more symmetrical. It is important to know that some women may be unable to nurse after breast reduction surgery.
PROCEDURE
The procedure takes approximately 3-5 hours. Breast reduction surgery is performed in an outpatient surgical facility. Breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. By removing “excess” breast tissue, adipose tissue, and breast skin this operation reduces AND lifts the breasts to a higher position on the chest wall (in other words, the breasts are “automatically” lifted when a breast reduction is performed). By doing so, patients often find improvement in neck, back, and shoulder discomfort and find it easier to form their activities of daily living and exercise.
Generally speaking, it is always best to achieve long-term stable weight prior to proceeding with body contouring surgery. In other words, the “ideal weight” for a specific patient is one where he/she feels comfortable long-term, and does not expect significant fluctuation to occur after the procedure.
Achieving this long-term stable weight, will increase the safety of the operation, will likely improve the outcome of the operation, and will decrease chances that additional surgery will become necessary subsequently.
Juvenile Breast Reduction
Juvenile Breast Reduction is designed to improve the appearance and symptoms of overly large breasts in young teens. Breast hypertrophy can cause both physical and psychosocial consequences as the breasts are too large for the teen’s body frame. The teen may experience different degrees of back, shoulder, and neck discomfort associated with large breast and may seek the care of a chiropractor to temporarily alleviate some of the pain. Simple juvenile activities such as exersize or shopping are bothersome to young teens experiencing breast hypertrophy. An ideal candidate is at or near their ideal goal weight and must be willing to accept scars resulting from breast reduction surgery in exchange for the improvement in size, contour, and position of the breasts. While breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations performed, the need for further surgery may be necessary in the future if the breasts were to grow large again, for example after pregnancy.

FAQ
What is a breast reduction?
With breast reduction surgery, your doctor improves the appearance and symptoms of overly large breasts by reducing their size and reshaping them. The surgery is specifically designed to relieve symptoms of pain and discomfort in your breasts, shoulders, neck, and upper back.
Juvenile breast reduction is also an excellent procedure for teens who have breast hypertrophy (enlargement of tissue). The ideal candidate is at or near their ideal goal weight and must be willing to accept scars resulting from breast reduction surgery in exchange for an improvement in size, contour, and position of their breasts.
During a breast reduction, your doctor removes excess breast tissue, adipose tissue, and breast skin, which automatically lifts your breasts into a higher position on your chest wall. The surgery is usually 2-5 hours long depending upon the extent of the reduction and your recovery will take 3-4 weeks.

Can I combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation?
Yes, though the procedure is more complex. If you want to both lift and augment your breasts, your doctor needs to consider the best way to lift your breasts, remove excess tissue, but still leave enough to accommodate implants. Rest assured, he has extensive experience performing this combination procedure and makes every effort to get you the profile you desire.
