CoolSculpting for Fat Reduction

It’s summer, which means you’re spending lots of time swimsuit shopping and standing in front of the mirror in tiny bikinis. If winter weight from the holidays has clung to your abdomen and thighs way longer than anticipated, it’s not too late to melt that extra fat to feel confident at the beach this summer. No, we’re not talking about painful, expensive liposuction. Advancements in non-invasive cosmetic technology make it possible to remove stubborn fat deposits in trouble zones such as the love handles, thighs, lower abdomen, and arms without surgery.

There are only two non-invasive body sculpting devices on the market that have been proven to permanently destroy fat cells: Vanquish ME and CoolSculpting. Which method of fat reduction is right for you? Read up on each procedure below to find out.

What is Vanquish ME?

FDA-approved in 2015, Vanquish ME is the newest non-invasive fat reduction treatment on the market. The procedure involves using radio frequency energy to heat stubborn fat cells in the subcutaneous layer of the skin just enough to allow for cell breakdown. Once the fat cells are killed and turned into waste, they are naturally flushed and eliminated by the body’s lymphatic system. Vanquish ME is specifically designed to target the abdominal area, but we also have a thigh adapter and arm adapter to allow us to target other trouble zones.

With Vanquish ME, the adapter never comes in contact with your skin. You simply lie beneath the device while the sensors read your body fat. The radio-frequency energy, which heats the skin to 101 degrees and the underlying fat to 120 degrees, feels warm and relaxing – never painful. Vanquish ME treatments take about 45 minutes and patients typically have a total of four sessions spaced one week apart.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is also FDA-approved for permanent fat reduction. As the name suggests, CoolSculpting involves literally freezing a particular pocket of fat so the cells can be eliminated through the body’s metabolic process. Unlike Vanquish ME, the CoolSculpting applicator requires the targeted area to be sucked into the device. The applicator, which feels a bit like a vacuum, makes the skin feel very cold for the first few minutes, then comfortable for the remainder of the treatment.

With CoolSculpting, each treatment area is sucked into the applicator and left in place for one hour, and then another area is treated (to treat the entire abdominal area, four to six sessions are required). Patients who opt for this non-surgical, non-invasive procedure experience no downtime.* They may feel a small amount of pressure during the procedure but, due to the “freezing,” this will dissipate quickly as the treated area becomes numb. CoolSculpting treatment takes about 35 minutes, and most patients only need one session to see results.
