Botox and Derma Fillers Skin Treatments at Prime Med Spa

It’s natural to become a bit more mindful of your anti-aging skincare regimen in the summer. Sunshine and salt water can be brutal on your complexion. As you already know, slathering on SPF every morning, drinking water throughout the day, and applying a retinol treatment at night can slow down the aging process and prevent future skin damage. But what about the fine lines and wrinkles that have already made an unwelcome appearance on your face?

Botox and dermal fillers are both popular ways of dealing with the signs of aging without going under the knife. While many people consider the two treatments the same, they work in completely different ways to address specific skin issues. If you’re considering Botox or dermal fillers to smooth and rejuvenate your complexion, brush up on the basics to determine which treatment will best suit your goals.

What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name for the substance botulinum toxin, which is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing underlying facial muscles. It was approved by the FDA in 2002 for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows and has since been approved to treat crow’s feet, or wrinkles at the corners of the eyes. Botox is also used to treat medical conditions like hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), muscular disorders, and migraines.

When injected, Botox blocks signals from your nerves to your muscles, leaving the muscles without instructions to contract. With the injected muscles no longer able to contract, wrinkles on the overlying skin relax and soften. The results of Botox last between three and six months, and treatment can be adjusted to achieve the natural look you desire.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are also used to erase fine lines and wrinkles for a smoother, more youthful appearance. Unlike Botox, which reduces the movement of facial muscles to smooth the overlying skin, dermal fillers involve injecting lines, wrinkles and folds with a hyaluronic acid gel to add instant volume and stimulate long-term collagen growth. Treating wrinkles with dermal fillers yields immediate results that last between one and two years, depending on the formula used.

Dermal fillers can be used to smooth lines and add volume to different areas of the face. The most commonly treated areas include nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lips, and cheeks. At Prime Med Spa, we use the Juvéderm collection of dermal fillers to provide our patients with gorgeous, natural results. Each product in the Juvéderm line is designed to address a specific area of the face. When used together, we can tackle all of your skin issues for a beautiful look that doesn’t interfere with your natural facial expressions or movement.

Say “goodbye” to fine lines and wrinkles at Prime Med Spa!

Both Botox and dermal fillers are incredibly effective at smoothing lines and wrinkles that have creased your face without permission. The best treatment for you depends on your goals. To recap, Botox is typically used to treat wrinkles on the forehead and at the corners of the eyes, and results last up to six months. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, can smooth lines and folds around your mouth and add volume to your lips and cheeks. Depending on the product used, results can last anywhere from one to two years.

At Prime Med Spa, we offer both Botox and Juvéderm and can advise you on the best product for your needs.
