Dr. Michael S. Wong, MD FACS

Michael S. Wong, MD is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the Associate Dean for Academic and Career Advising at California Northstate University College of Medicine as well as Vice President of Clinical Practice at California Northstate University. He is also Professor Emeritus at University of California Davis, where he practiced for over 18 years, serving as the Director of Body Contouring After Weight Loss and the Plastic Surgery Residency Program Director, training the next generation of plastic surgeons.

He is the Past-President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons who led the charge to protect patients from those illegally advertising themselves as board-certified cosmetic surgeons and affirming the value of board-certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He continues to advocate for patient safety as the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ Legislative Advocacy Committee’s Vice-Chair for States Advocacy, partnering with legislators on issues of truth in advertising and protecting patients from surprise billing.

A California native, Dr. Wong completed his undergraduate education at the UC Berkeley, traveling to the East Coast for his medical school training at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. He returned to California for his General Surgery training at UC Davis-East Bay in Oakland, California, completing his bicoastal surgical training at the plastic surgery training at the world-renowned Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of all the major plastic surgery societies (ASPS, ASAPS, AAPS) and Past-President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the largest organization of plastic surgeons in California.

Dr. Wong is an internationally recognized expert in body contouring after weight loss, publishing and presenting on his techniques at both national and international plastic surgery meetings. His Annals of Plastic Surgery article describes his technique of mastopexy autoaugmentation, extending flap size for great volume enhancement and combining this with a 360-degree upper body lift. Always seeking to improve surgical outcomes, his research interests have focused on decreasing risk and complications, particularly in high-risk patients.
